Jerusalem’s Third Temple plays a major role in Bible prophecy and its construction is believed to be a precursor to the end of the world. Although the Jewish temple does not yet exist and there is no guarantee it ever will, some scholars believe it is a matter of time before it is built on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. And if this happens, many Christian conspiracy theorists believe it will open the doors for the Antichrist to falsely declare himself God.
According to the blog Bible Prophecy – Signposts of the Times, evidence of this is found on the pages of the New Testament.
For instance, 2 Thessalonians warns: “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
“He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshipped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.”
The Antichrist is also mentioned in 1 John 2: Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many Antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.
“They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us.
“For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.”
Daniel 7 also makes mention of an Antichrist-like figure: “He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws.
“The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.”
According to the Bible conspiracy blog, these events will come to fruition if the Third Temple is constructed.
The Holy Temple of Jerusalem represents the holiest place of worship in all of Judaism.
To date, two temples have stood on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount but have been sacked by the Babylonian’s and Romans respectively.
The site is now under Islamic administration as it is home to the Al Aqsa Compound and the Dome of the Rock – one of the holiest places of worship in the Islamic world.
As such, as Third Temple is believed to be an incredibly potent prophetic symbol.
Signposts of the Times said: “Time is very short. Events could play our quicker and sooner than one can imagine.
“Just take a look at all that has taken place in the year 2020 and we aren’t even done yet with this eventful year.
“Are you ready for Christ’s return? Are you ready to meet the Son of the Living God, the true Messiah, the one who has paid the penalty for the sins of the world?”
“‘He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.’ 1 John 2:2 NIV
“We pray you are ready to meet the Lord in the air. Let that be your hope in these crazy days we now live in.”
However, there is no real indication the Third Temple will make an appearance anytime soon.
The Bible also makes a very strong point against trying to predict the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
Christ himself said in Matthew 24: “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
